Phim Call of Duty sẽ khai thác sâu về cái giá của chiến tranh

First announced back in September of last year, we have heard relatively little regarding the upcoming Call of Duty film adaptation, aside from the fact that it will be based on the franchise’s Modern Warfare sub-series. As we inch closer towards its June 2028 release date however, we’re starting to learn a bit more about what to expect from the ‘blockbuster’ – with the director claiming that the film will explore “the cost of having to be a warrior.”

Taking part in an interview with the publication comicbook.com, the director for the upcoming Call of Duty film – Peter Berg – was asked about his mentality regarding “how his experiences as a war movie director were helping him shape Call of Duty”. In response, Berg stated:

“So modern warfare, if you really look at the missions, and the storylines, and the characters – like Captain Price, and Soap, and Ghost, and Alex – these are complicated humans. These are not – and no disrespect – cartoon characters or comic books.”

The director continued, “These are very nuanced storylines; like, there’s a real soul to the Modern Warfare universe… And, yes, there’s violence, and there’s hardware, and equipment, and there’s killing – but underneath it I think the game, and the craters (sic) of the game, are really looking at the cost of war, the cost of having to be a warrior who’s, for whatever reason, chosen to put himself between real danger and the rest of us, and the burden that these guys carry.”

Since its inception, the Call of Duty franchise has spawned many different sub-series; most notably Black Ops and Modern Warfare. Of the two, the Black Ops games are certainly more unique in their approach, and so it is interesting to see Activision going with the more ‘standard’ narratives presented in the Modern Warfare games.

Given Berg’s experience with directing modern military films however, it perhaps makes sense that they would choose to adapt Modern Warfare as opposed to the more experimental and mind-bendy Black Ops stories. Berg’s full thoughts on the project can be found HERE.
